Healthy skin is beautiful.
Many people who are familiar with the world of cosmetic treatments have heard of neurotoxins or neuromodulators. But what exactly are they? Do they really work? Are they safe? Neurotoxin injectables made with botulinum toxin are tested and have been shown to be safe and offer outstanding, age-defying results. As a result, you can combat crow’s feet, smile lines, frown lines, and much more.
You don’t have to navigate the world of neurotoxins on your own. At Allume Med Spa, we have the expertise and skills to help you decide which treatment is best for you and provide injectable neurotoxin treatments that are safe and stunning. We curate every method we use with care and with our patients in mind to ensure that each person who visits our practice receives caring and customized aesthetic and wellness therapies.
Neurotoxins or neuromodulators are a category of cosmetic injectable dermal fillers that are made from botulinum toxin type A. While the name “neurotoxin” could sound intimidating, this simply refers to the fact that they work by affecting localized nerve receptors. Neurotoxin serums have been used safely in both cosmetic and medical applications for decades. In aesthetics, injectable neurotoxins can effectively address expressive fine lines and wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing or “freezing” tiny underlying facial muscles for a smooth, youthful result.
Botox is made specifically with onabotulinumtoxinA. This specific serum is FDA approved for over 20 uses and is a reliable and well-known type of neurotoxin. An extremely versatile filler, Botox is a great option for correcting crow’s feet, forehead lines, frown lines, and other wrinkles and lines on the face caused by repeated movement.
Xeomin is similar to Botox and is FDA-approved to treat glabellar or “11” lines between the eyebrows. This serum is made with incobotulinumtoxinA, considered an exceptionally pure version of botulinum type A. This means it does not contain certain proteins present in other botulism toxin-based formulas and thus may be less likely to cause an allergic reaction.
Our Petaluma neurotoxin patients are typically extremely pleased with the results of treatment with Botox or Xeomin. This treatment can reverse signs of aging and even prevent the progression of wrinkles that are just starting. With neurotoxins Petaluma patients can address concerns such as:
Ideal neuromodulator patients are in generally good health and have early, milder signs of aging. Candidates will want to treat existing wrinkles and lines or have a goal of “pre-juvenation” or slowing wrinkle severity before it gets more pronounced. If you have ever had a reaction to botulinum toxin type A in the past, you will need to avoid this treatment.
Consultations are an opportunity for us to learn about you and your aesthetic goals. Each patient has unique and specific needs and reasons for choosing to seek cosmetic treatment, and our goal is to tailor your treatment for optimal results you will be thrilled with. There is very little preparation involved for an Petaluma Injectables appointment, but we will ask you to avoid alcohol, anti-inflammatory medications, and sun exposure for about a week before your appointment.
First, your skin will be cleansed and prepared for the procedure. In most cases, we will apply a topical numbing agent to ease any pain or discomfort that could be caused by the needle injection. Finally, the serum will be injected using medical-grade syringes and specialized, anatomically specific techniques. An entire session usually takes about 20 minutes or less.
Initial results can usually be seen within a few days after treatment, with final results typically appearing between one to two weeks. After your appointment, you will want to avoid touching the treated area to prevent accidentally shifting the serum under your skin. We also recommend sleeping on your back with your head slightly elevated for a few days. In most cases, Botox and Xeomin last around three to four months, but some patients still find their wrinkles are smooth at six months.

Since neurotoxins are an injectable treatment administered via a needle, you may feel a slight pinch during the treatment. Many patients opt for topical numbing cream to help reduce possible discomfort.
Minor side effects that could occur with any type of injectable filler include redness or irritation at the injection site. Neurotoxins carry an extremely rare risk of allergic reaction, but the symptoms are usually short and very treatable.
Neurotoxin injectables do not produce permanent results, however, they do typically last several months.
No, this treatment is not advised for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
